The Missouri Ozark Forest Ecosystem Project was a baseline study used to develop scientifically sound methods of estimating carbon credits within Ozark landscapes.

This work addresses the questions: How much carbon do Ozark forests sequester and how will climate change or alternative management scenarios affect carbon stocks? Predictions from this project will help legislators evaluate Missouri’s position relative to national and international carbon trading, which is likely to influence the economic development of both private and public sectors within the state. We also aim to develop a solid scientific basis for current and future management plan modifications for Ozark Forests.
